The main event for this week’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw was Roman Reigns defending the Universal Championship against Finn Balor. The match was made earlier in the show after Reigns said that he was going to be a fighting champion and he wanted Balor as his opponent because Balor never got a rematch after being forced to relinquish the title in Brooklyn on the night after SummerSlam in 2016.
Reigns retained the Universal Championship as Braun Strowman made his way to the ring with the Money In The Bank briefcase. Strowman kicked Reigns in the gut and told the referee that he would be cashing in.
The match was about to start but The Shield’s music played and that’s when Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose made their way to the ring in full Shield gear. Michael Cole noted that the bell did not ring so it was not an official cash-in for Strowman.
All three of them took out Strowman and powerbombed him through the announcer’s table to close out the show. The fans loved it and it came across as WWE’s new way to keep fans from booing Roman Reigns. It might actually work.
