Tonight’s show should set the stage for next month’s SummerSlam show at the Barclays Center in New York City. The key matches being pushes are Bobby Lashley vs. Roman Reigns and presumably, the winner will face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship next month. Ronda Rousey will be in attendance for the Raw Women’s Championship match and the belief is that he will get a title rematch next month so tonight should help set up that match.

Kickoff Show
Sin Cara vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas
As expected, this is a one-sided feud designed to get Almas over on the main roster. Almas won after hitting the running knees in the corner and then hitting the hammerlock DDT. Zelina Vega gets credit for the assist because she distracted Almas during the final seconds of the match.

The Kickoff show panel attempted to interview Shinsuke Nakamura. He was backstage and pretended not to hear Renee Young’s questions. Nakamura said that he respects Jeff Hardy but he will take away his pain, his canvas and his title.

The New Day vs. SAnitY – Tables Match
Good match. Fans popped during a spot with Kofi jumping off the top and driving both feet into SAnitY while they were on the shoulders of Big E and Xavier Woods. SAnitY won after Young jumped off the second rope to put Woods through a table at ringside.

Renee Young said that Ronda Rousey has arrived in the building.

Extreme Rules main card

Raw Tag Team Championship
Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt vs. The B-Team
The B-Team won after Hardy tagged himself in so they could double team on Bo. However, Wyatt was accidentally bumped out of the ring by his partner and that allowed Bo Dallas to hit the roll the dice finisher on Matt. Matt seemed upset as The B-Team celebrated.

Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin
It seemed like Corbin had the match in hand but Balor won with a roll-up after he reversed an attempt at the End of Days finisher.

The Bludgeon Brother attacked Team Hell No backstage. Erick Rowan hit Kane’s knee with the mallet as referees and GM Paige ran in to check on them. The announcers wondered about Kane’s condition for later tonight.

Smackdown Women’s Championship
Carmella (Champion) vs. Asuka
James Ellsworth will be suspended over the ring in a shark cage

The shark cage with Ellsworth in it was suspended directly above the middle of the ring. Funny how it turns out that way and the heel is able to toss weapons down from it. Ellsworth tossed a chain down during the first minute of the match but Asuka was able to get rid of it. Ellsworth was able to pick the lock and he got out but as he climbed out, his foot got caught on the bottom of the cage and his leg hung from the cage. That explains why the cage was so low. Some production people ran in the ring to help Ellsworth but Asuka ran them off and she proceeded to kick Ellsworth like a pinata. Carmella got back in the ring and she shoved Asuka face first into the cage. Carmella won. Asuka destroyed Ellsworth after the match with kicks, punches, German suplexes and the Asuka lock.

United States Championship
Jeff Hardy (Champion) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

This match was very short, presumably because Hardy is hurting. Nakamura hit a low blow when the referee wasn’t looking. The ref started the match and then Nakamura hit the Kinshasa and then pinned Hardy. Randy Orton appeared and he walked into the ring while Nakamura walked to the ringside area. Orton stomped Hardy in the mid-section and then walked off as Nakamura looked on with a shocked look on his face.

Steel Cage Match
Kevin Owens vs. Braun Strowman

As expected, Owens got a few spots in but he was a pinball for Strowman for most of the match. Eventually, Owens handcuffed Strowman to the corner of the ring and he took the opportunity to hit Strowman with punches. Of course, Strowman broke free and he caught up to Owens climbing the cage. Strowman grabbed Owens’ neck and shoved him off the top and through a table. It was probably a gimmick table but that had to hurt. Owens won, technically, since he touched the floor first. Paramedics took Owens out on a stretcher.

Smackdown Tag Team Championship
The Bludgeon Brothers (Champions) vs. Team Hell No

Bryan had to wrestle by himself because of the pre-match attack from earlier but Kane limped to the ring with a brace on his foot late in the match. Bludgeon Bros. won after a doomsday device clothesline on Bryan.

They showed Roman Reigns walking in the backstage area. The B-Team were celebrating but Reigns was serious and focused on his match with Lashley so he didn’t say much.

Bobby Lashley vs. Roman Reigns

There were some near falls in this match with both guys kicking out of finishers. The end was Reigns going for a spear but Lashley countered with his own spear. He won the match. Click here for more details on what happened in this match.

Raw Women’s Championship – Extreme Rules Match
Alexa Bliss (Champion) vs. Nia Jax

Weapons were used and Mickie James got involved. Ronda Rousey got involved but that was not enough because James used weapons to help Bliss. Bliss won with the DDT after several chairshots on Jax. Click here for more on this match.

WWE Championship
AJ Styles (Champion) vs. Rusev

Surprisingly, they scheduled the Intercontinental Title match for the main event spot. Styles retained after hitting the Phenomenal Forearm on Rusev but it might not have happened if Rusev’s head did not hit the turnbuckle that was exposed by Aiden English. Rusev looked upset after the match and it looks like they are finally starting the Rusev/English split. Click here for more on this match.

Intercontinental Championship – 30-Minute Iron Man Match
Dolph Ziggler (Champion) vs. Seth Rollins

McIntyre was kicked out of the ringside area because of interference. The match ended in a draw (4-4) but Kurt Angle restarted the match and announced that the winner of the next fall would win the match. McIntyre re-appeared and distracted Rollins. Ziggler hit the Zig Zag and scored the pin to retain. Click here for more details on what happened during this match.
