Timing issues caused problems for Drew McIntyre-Goldberg segment on WWE Raw

As noted earlier, there were several changes made to the Legends Night episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.

PWInsider is reporting that the original plan for the show was to close with Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton but late in the day it was decided that the show would close with Keith Lee vs. Drew McIntyre. That match had to close out the show because they wanted to end with Goldberg standing face to face with McIntyre.

It was also reported that McIntyre was supposed to cut a promo about the Legends and that would set up Goldberg’s entrance but they were running short on time so that promo was cut and Goldberg walked out sooner than originally planned. So if you are wondering why Goldberg was talking about McIntyre’s attitude towards the legends, it’s because he was reacting to what McIntyre was supposed to say in his promo.

The show ended with McIntyre getting shoved but USA Network cut the show off before fans could see McIntyre getting back up to hit the Glasgow Kiss.

The Goldberg appearance was a late decision. Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that it wasn’t until Saturday that it was decided to bring Goldberg to Raw because they don’t have anyone ready to face McIntyre. In recent interviews, Goldberg had been building up for a match with Roman Reigns and that match could still happen at some point but right now he is needed on Raw as McIntyre’s opponent at the Rumble.

Goldberg’s deal with WWE runs through 2023. His deal includes two matches per year.
