Wardlow gives high praise to MJF for pushing AEW wrestlers to focus on psychology in wrestling matches

Wardlow was on Busted Open Radio this past week to talk about his career, working with Chris Jericho, MJF, and much more.

Here are some highlights:

Wardlow was asked when he knew this is what he wanted to do with his life: ā€œAt some point in elementary school.Ā  I was very, very youngā€¦Iā€™ve known this is what I wanted since I was a child, since I can remember.ā€

Wardlow was asked to give his thoughts on Chris Jericho:Ā  ā€œItā€™s truly surreal.Ā  There are moments when we come backstage from that and Iā€™m on the same type of a high when I get done having a match just being in a segment with Jericho because obviously, you watched him through the years.Ā  Heā€™s done absolutely everything in the business. Heā€™s a true legend. Heā€™s somebody Iā€™ve watched for years. So, to be able to not only share a ring with him, but to be associated in the same faction as him, is just truly mind-blowing. Sometimes I still have to pinch myself to make sure this is all real. Heā€™s great, obviously, as a learning tree to sit under. Heā€™s a very nice guy and a very cool dude. He taught me a lot and itā€™s been so much fun working with those guys.ā€

Wardlow was asked if the guys, when putting together a match, if the psychology is talked about first or if they are worried about going out there and doing something spectacular that is going to garner more attention initially than psychology would? Wardlow said, ā€œIt depends on who youā€™re working with. Obviously, as you guys know, I havenā€™t had a great amount of matches, so the ones I have been involved with, thereā€™s been some individuals where itā€™s just like, we got this spot, we got this spot, we got this spot. Then thereā€™s some guys who really take their time and ponder and really think about things and how to make sense. Adam Page was one that I was really impressed by the way he just dissected things and wanted everything to just make sense and click. I really appreciated that. Thatā€™s one thing about Max (MJF). Max is big on psychology and storytelling and Iā€™ve witnessed Max come into situations where people are talking about hitting spot after spot after spot and Max comes in and is like, ā€˜Guys, that makes no sense.ā€™ So, one thing about Max, and obviously you guys know, we all know, is he gets it and thatā€™s why he is so successful at such a young age. I do appreciate when Max comes in and says letā€™s tell a story. Letā€™s make this make sense.ā€
