Update on Mike and Maria Kanellis, when they asked for their release

There was a brief discussion about Mike and Maria Kanellis on Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio. As previously reported, Maria has denied that she requested her release from WWE but several sources are saying otherwise.

Dave Meltzer and Garrett Gonzales discussed the issues with unhappy wrestlers and Meltzer confirmed Ryan Satin’s report. “The story is not wrong. It was several weeks ago. From what I understand, they asked to give notice and were turned down so they are gonna work there. They were really good in TNA. Maria, especially was really really good in TNA. There’s only so many people that are gonna get pushed.”

As WWE continues to sign more names from the independent scene, the available TV spots will continue to shrink.

“Before the mentality was to take the money,” Meltzer added.

That mentality has changed now that there are other places to go where wrestlers can make good money. He added “If you think you are a really good performer and you are not allowed to perform and you are not getting the opportunities at the level that you feel that you could, The Revival is a perfect example of this.”

For those of you that have asked, we don’t know when their deals expire but if they signed a standard 3 year deal that most wrestlers have signed, then that would indicate that they would not be free to leave at least until the summer of 2020 and maybe longer than that if WWE adds the time they missed from the ring.
