Ronda Rousey Reveals Why Singles Match With Becky Lynch Match Never Happened

Ronda Rousey cites Vince McMahon as the reason a match between her and Becky Lynch never happened.

The former WWE Women’s Champion seemed destined to battle Becky Lynch in a WWE ring. This was the biggest match in the women’s division for years, as the two were two of the most popular superstars in wrestling at the time.

Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey was booked to take place at Survivor Series 2018. However, a concussion caused by Nia Jax took Becky out of the match. This pushed it forward to the main event of WrestleMania 35, although Charlotte Flair was later added to make it a triple threat.

Ronda Rousey recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet about the match, and why it never came to fruition. The former UFC fighter blamed Vince McMahon for not booking the match, while also insulting Bruce Prichard and John Laurinaitis.

“Because Vince is an 80-year-old asshole.” Ronda Rousey said. “Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, Bruce Prichard, they can all suck a dick.”

However, when asked about Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, she said “They are fantastic, love them.”

Ronda Rousey On The Finish To WrestleMania 35

Ronda Rousey continued, speaking about the finish to the WrestleMania 35 main event.

The match ended when Becky Lynch reversed a move into a backslide, pinning Ronda’s shoulders to the mat. She noted that she couldn’t hear the referee counting the pin, and that the match quality was due to it being “thrown together” the night before.

“I didn’t think my shoulders were flat on the ground, so I was trying to scoot to get my shoulders flat because it’s so f*cking loud I can’t hear anything. But that’s the difference between a match that got thrown together the night before and the debut match, which is a match that had been put together over weeks with tons of support and practice and opinions and everything like that.”

“Why did we put a whole year into promoting and building this match, and then it’s just thrown together at the last second? We were still figuring it out when we were at the venue, and that’s what a lack of practice and rehearsal does.”

She Wanted To Use The Finish To Work Towards A Match With Becky Lynch

After the disappointing ending to the Triple Threat at WrestleMania, Ronda Rousey still wanted a match with Becky Lynch.

She said that she wanted to use the finish to build up to a future bout with The Man. Ronda Rousey added that it wasn’t an intentional finish, and the WWE wouldn’t let her build up to a rematch.

“I wanted to use that. I wanted to use that as, okay, this is how we lead into the next one. We bring it up on the Tron and say, you never got me, this is bullsh*t. The referees are all in your pocket. And put that into the next, you know, the singles between me and Becky that everybody wanted that got taken away.”

When asked if it was intentional, she replied, “No, no, no. I didn’t think my shoulders were flush. I was trying to flatten out. But I think that we could have used it and kept it going, but they never let us.”
