Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson has signed with WWE

United States Olympic gold medalist and NCAA Champion Gable Steveson has made his decision on his future as an athlete.

Steveson tweeted today, “Just put pen to paper.” Dave Meltzer later confirmed that Steveson has signed a contract with WWE. Steveson had fielded offers from several places but WWE was pushing the hardest to sign him and he had been invited to a TakeOver show and SummerSlam a couple of weeks ago.

Steveson said that he met with Vince McMahon during SummerSlam weekend and while there was talk that he could make the jump to mixed martial arts, he had not met with UFC’s Dana White but said that White could reach out to him if he was interested.

Steveson won the gold medal in wrestling at the Olympics in Tokyo. He is friends with Paul Heyman and it was known that there was a good chance that he would land in WWE.

WWE also had Olympic gold medalist Tamyra Mensah-Stock at SummerSlam. She won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in women’s freestyle wrestling. No word on if the company is close to signing her as well.
