Myla Grace Details Backstage Interactions With IYO SKY & Kairi Sane At Marigold Summer Destiny

Myla Grace recounts some of her backstage interactions at Marigold Summer Destiny.

On July 13, IYO SKY made a rare non-WWE appearance at Marigold’s Summer Destiny event to wrestle her fellow STARDOM Queen’s Quest alumni Utami Hayashishita. There, SKY not only found victory, but she also the amazement of spectators. One of those spectators was Marigold’s own Myla Grace, who teamed with Zayda Steel earlier in the show. During a recent interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Grace recalled her excitement in seeing SKY perform and sharing a locker room with her.

“Honestly, when I was backstage, like I said, I’m usually quite good with my nerves. That was another time I was not,” Grace admitted. “I was fine the whole day, and then it was leading up to getting out and I have my playlist and IYO’s music hit. I looked and she was in the corner, and I was like, there’s IYO over there, I use her music to get me fired up. Then I think everything just sort of hit me, and I got really emotional.”

“I was like, ‘What is going on? This night is crazy.’ But again, that match, I just could not take my eyes off it. The both of them were just unbelievable. I think IYO could be the very best in the world. She’s amazing, amazing. I was just more jealous that I didn’t get to go outside and watch it. I had to watch it from the screen, but even watching it from the screen, [it was] unbelievable.”

Backstage Interactions

IYO SKY wasn’t the only WWE representative in the building for Marigold Summer Destiny. WWE’s Kairi Sane also made rounds backstage, with notable reunions with Marigold founder Rossy Ogawa and her former STARDOM tag team partner Natsumi Showzuki. As revealed by Grace, Sane also played a part in making Grace’s dream of wrestling in Japan a reality.

“I spoke to IYO [backstage],” Grace recalled. “I just said like, ‘Hi,’ blah blah blah blah, but I kind of let her have her space because I knew she was wrestling. Then obviously at the end I was just like, ‘That was amazing. That was so good.’”

“I spoke to Kairi quite a bit because obviously she put my name forward [in getting me to Japan], and she came over and said hi. She was like ‘You’re Nikki [Cross’] friend,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, I know. Thank you so, so much. This has been the biggest dream come true. You have no idea how much like this means to me.’ Then I think after having that chat, that’s when I started getting emotional and everything started hitting me.”
