Mayu Iwatani Wants STARDOM To Surpass NJPW

IWGP Women’s Champion Mayu Iwatani recently made some big statements on her plans to put STARDOM on the global map.

At the recent STARDOM 5STAR Grand Prix show in Shibuya this past August 11, Mayu picked up her second victory in the tournament over her fellow STARS faction member Saya Iida in the main event. Mayu then closed out the show by sharing a few words with Saya.

She started by thanking Saya Iida for putting on a tough fight, even claiming that it was tougher than her match against former World and Wonder of Stardom Champion Tam Nakano the night prior. Saya returned Mayu’s respect and thanked her for her mentorship throughout her career as a pro wrestler.

Following her comments towards Saya, Mayu Iwatani addressed the STARDOM crowd in Shibuya. She reassured the fans that in spite of the recent earthquakes in Japan, STARDOM would continue to shine as the top professional wrestling promotions not just in the country, but globally. “Next year and the year after, STARDOM will continue to lead the way, and will become the number one wrestling organization in the world, surpassing not only the women’s wrestling world, but also New Japan,” she said.

NJPW and STARDOM are currently running their biggest annual round-robin tournaments in the G1 Climax and 5STAR Grand Prix, respectively. Though both companies are under Bushiroad management, New Japan Pro-Wrestling remains to be considered the premier wrestling company in Japan. World Wonder Ring STARDOM follows as a close second.
