Lio Rush on his contract status: “I’m a lone wolf. I go where I want”

Lio Rush spoke with the “Fightful Podcast” to discuss Tony Khan’s thoughts on AEW talent working for other promotions and shared details about his AEW deal.

Lio Rush was asked if working for other promotions comes up in conversations with Tony Khan:

“Surprisingly no. It doesn’t come up in conversation a lot,” Rush revealed. “You’ve seen so many people in AEW work all these other places. I think it’s just where we are at in wrestling right now where it’s just exciting times. You’re seeing so many people pop up in different places and you never know who’s going to show up where announced or unannounced.”

“I think that’s the part about wrestling that the fans are so excited about. A show can be fully sold out already without even having to name particular people, and you can just be going to that show and see somebody just show up, and that’s super cool. You’ve seen all these guys and girls pop up in other places.”

“I think it’s pretty well known that Tony is excited about his pool of talent, and I think as long as we’re being safe, as long as we’re doing good business, it’s good business for AEW, it doesn’t come up a lot. Normally, it’s just, ‘Hey, I got this show coming up? Is this cool?’ ‘Yea, as long as it doesn’t run into anything’, which is common. So it’s pretty cool. It’s pretty exciting.”

Lio was asked if he’s with AEW long term and did he come back under the same deal that he had as before:

“I got offered a deal initially, and like you said, things happened, things changed. The world of wrestling has changed.”

“I will say this, and this is no secret, but this is just me pointing out the obvious. I’m a lone wolf. I go where I want. I like putting things on my resume. I like working in a lot of different places. I like wrestling anybody and everybody.”

“We’ve seen that ever since I left WWE. I’ve been in AAA, MLW, AEW, and New Japan. It’s (my independence) very important for my mental stability. I never really liked being stuck in one spot, especially if I don’t have control over that. I am on a deal with AEW. I’m also on a deal with New Japan. I’m also doing my own things back at home, so it’s pretty open ended and it’s just exciting.”
