Director Todd Phillips: Hulk Hogan Biopic Is ‘Not Going To Come Together’ For Me

It looks like we won’t see Hulk Hogan portrayed by Chris Hemsworth on the big screen.

The news comes after years of development hell for the planned film. Chris Hemsworth was announced to playing the WWE Hall of Famer back in 2019, with the Thor star bringing huge interest to the project.

He was to be joined by director Todd Phillips. He found success directing movies like The Hangover and Joker. The Hulk Hogan biopic looked like one of his most ambitious project yet, but it sadly looks like that movie will never happen.

Todd Phillips spoke with Variety recently when promoting his new movie Joker: Folie à Deux. In the interview, he discussed the Hulk Hogan biopic and seemingly confirmed the movie was canceled.

He said that he loved the idea of the film, but thinks it is not going to come together. This has poured water on fans expectations and seemingly confirmed that the project is dead. However, it should be noted that Phillips said “for me”, possibly indicating he’s just not the director anymore.

“I love what we were trying to do, but that’s not going to come together for me.” Todd Phillips said.

This will undoubtedly disappoint wrestling fans, although the writing has been on the wall for a while. Netflix dropped the project in 2023, leaving Hogan and Hemsworth in limbo about the film.

With Todd Phillips now dropping out too, the future of the project looks bleak. Hulk Hogan didn’t know what was going on with it earlier this year, and now it appears we know – it’s cancelled.

Ben Affleck Could Play Hulk Hogan In “Killing Gawker” Movie

While the Hulk Hogan biopic may be dead, we will still see the Hulkster on the big screen.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that a screenplay based on the Hulk Hogan versus Gawker court case has been picking up steam in Hollywood, and it is set to move forward.

Per Johnson, the film, titled KILLING GAWKER, is in the works with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Artist Equity, with January 2025 being eyed as the start date for production.

Ben Affleck is touted to be playing Hogan. Meanwhile, Matt Damon is said to be taking the role of Peter Thiel.
