Darby Allin Reveals Why He Used Real Glass In Sting’s Last Match

Darby Allin had a good reason for using real glass in Sting‘s last match.

The pair teamed together one last time at AEW Revolution 2024. Sting & Darby Allin defended the AEW Tag Team Championships against the Young Bucks in one of the wildest matches in AEW history.

The most insane spot of the match was, unsurprisingly, one that Darby Allin took part in. He jumped from the top of a ladder onto the outside of the ring, smashing through panes of glass with a Swanton Bomb. This cut his back to shreds, as blood poured from the thousand tiny cuts on his body.

The duo ended up winning the match, and vacated their titles soon after.

Darby Allin spoke with Sports Illustrated recently, and spoke about the decision to use real glass in the match. The former TNT Champion revealed that he didn’t want to use sugar glass, in case it broke too early and embarrassed him.

He added that he wanted real glass, because it was “all or nothing for Sting”.

“Going through the glass, that was pretty chill.” Darby Allin said. “Then the referee was like, ‘Are you OK?’ I had like a huge hole in my side. It sliced me open pretty good, and they had to tape me up. The stitches and staples held me together, which sucked, but otherwise, it didn’t hurt.”

“When you think about it, that’s when you get hurt. You need to get up there and go. I was just going with the flow. I didn’t want to use sugar glass. If that breaks too early, or breaks in your hands, it’s embarrassing. I wanted real glass. It was all or nothing for Sting.”
