Bron Breakker defeated Tommaso Ciampa to win the NXT Championship at New Year’s Evil

A new WWE NXT Champion was crowned tonight at New Year’s Evil.

Here are some notes from the show:

During tonight’s WWE NXT New Year’s Evil broadcast, Carmelo Hayes defeated Roderick Strong to unify the NXT North American championship. Hayes won the match after hitting a guillotine leg drop off the top rope.

There was an AJ Styles-Grayson Waller segment that led to a brawl to set up their match.

In the second match of the night, Matt Riddle and MSK defeated Imperium in a six-man tag match after Riddle hit Marcel Barthel with the RKO.

It was announced that next week’s show will be headlined by AJ Styles vs. Grayson Waller. Also, next week will include the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Mandy Rose retained the NXT Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat match with Raquel Gonzalez and Cora Jade. Jade was close to winning the match but Rose was able to roll up Jade for a clean pin.

Von Wagner was put over big time in a segment with Andre Chase. Wagner interrupted and attacked Chase and then attacked fans planted in the front row.

In the main event, Bron Breakker defeated Tommaso Ciampa to win the NXT Championship. In the final minutes of the match, Breakker through the announcer’s table. Ciampa eventually recovered and he hit consecutive knee strikes to the head and the Fairytale Ending but Breakker kicked out. Breakker won the title after hitting the Bulldog off the top rope and forcing Ciampa to submit to the Steiner Recliner.
