The Mr. McMahon docuseries is currently streaming on Netflix, and one of the topics discussed was the Chris Benoit murder-suicide.
While former WWE talent Chris Nowinski expressed his belief that Benoit suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin revealed that he doesn’t believe that was the case because he’s “not a CTE guy.” He said,
“I worked for a long time. I got dropped on my head on time. I got concussed. Other than that, I can’t remember having too many concussions in the business of pro wrestling. My take on that has always been, if you were just wrestling, and you got a bunch of concussions, you’re probably doing something wrong. I’m not a CTE guy. Just don’t believe in it.”
Following the Chris Benoit murder-suicide, WWE added an ImPACT Concussion Management Program as a baseline test for all in-ring talents.
